Christina McDonagh and Meryl Wright met when they were studying for a degree in Applied Arts at Plymouth College of Art and Design. During their final year they both chose to specialise in kiln formed glass and upon completion of the course set up a workshop in Plymouth. They work solely with Bullseye and Desag Artista Art glass designing and making one off pieces.
Using the inherent characteristics of glass, its potential fluidity, fragility, colour, reflectivity and movement, they use layer upon layer of glass to provide the texture, colour and depth; heating and holding at various temperatures to control the movement. They pre-fire colourful layers of glass which they then break up and add to the piece to further create depth and movement.
Using a marine palette the work creates a visual reference that captures the constant momentum found on our shoreline. Primarily non-functional the work relies on the need to surround themselves with art for stimulation, inspiration and contemplation.
