Eric Ward  (born 1945)

Eric Ward was born in Dove Street, St Ives on November 20th 1945, where he has lived for most of his life. After completing his studies he went to sea as a fisherman until 1985 when he took up the position of Harbour Master, the position he still holds today.  In 1964 he joined the RNLI as a Lifeboat man, rising to the position of Coxswain in 1989, he retired from service in 2000 after 34 years.

Eric has always had an interest in art and trained at St Ives School of Art from 1987. In 1996 the BBC filmed a programme on him entitled 'Oils and Oilskins' which was critically acclaimed, a book featuring over 100 paintings has been published by Halsgrove which details some lovely examples of his work, the book is available from the gallery.

Eric has exhibited widely in Devon, Cornwall, Bristol, Harrogate, Antwerp and his work features in many public collections.

He is a Member of the Chelsea Arts Club.
