Gary Long

Gary Long Born in Birmingham in 1945 Gary has enjoyed a long, varied and hugely successful career spanning over 50 years.

He trained at Birmingham and Manchester Schools of Art as well as at the School of Advanced Study.

His early career saw him carve a career as one of the most respected illustrators of his generation. With contracts with such clients as Warner Brothers he was responsible for some of the film industry’s most iconic film posters, featuring such greats as Paul Newman. With agents on both sides of the Atlantic he also worked for clients in Canada where he met and married his wife Pat.

Gary’s work has also seen him appear as featured painter on BBC’s Countryfile where he showcased the work of Barbara Hepworth, Patrick Heron and Kurt Jackson as well as discussing his own work.

Listed in Who’s Who in Art Gary has forged a secondary career teaching, with stints at University College Falmouth, St Ives School of Painting and the Verrocchio Art Centre in Tuscany.

Oil is Gary’s favoured medium and his moody depictions of the Cornish coast upon which he now lives are alive with temperate, lustrous swathes of colour, bathed in the ever changing light of West Cornwall.

With work featured in collections across the world, we are delighted to welcome him in to our stable of gallery artists.
